Conclusion: This study provides an insight into the professional identity of occupational therapists working in outpatient practice. A restructuring of the education is required to strengthen the professional identity. According to them, there is little knowledge about this profession in society and there are many prejudices. Results: The majority of the participants follow an occupation oriented and client-centered approach as well as holistic and advisory work with the aim of ensuring participation in everyday life and independence of their clients. Deductive and inductive coding was carried out with MAXQDA 2018.2. Transcriptions were analysed using content-structured qualitative content analysis according to Kuckartz. Methods: Twelve occupational therapists working in outpatient practice in Germany were interviewed using a problem-centered guided interview in a qualitative research design.
